Region of mountains, basins and valleys with a rich past in the mining industry, extended in the center of Slovakia. In the southeast part it confines with the Hungary. The metropolis of the region is Banska Bystrica with more than 88.000 inhabitants. The region has 13 provinces: Banska Bystrica, Banska Stiavnica, Brezno, Detva, Krupina, Lucenec, Poltar, Revuca, Rimavska Sabota, Velky Krtis, Zvolen, Zarnovica a Ziar nad Hronom.

The tourist attractions of the region:
the historical and cultural monuments of the town of Banska Bystrica and of its provinces; the ski centers - Donovaly, Certovica and Chopok; the national parks - Nizke Tatry and Muranska planina; the spas - Brusno, Dudince, Kovacova, Sklene Teplice and Sliac; the possibility of hunting and of fishing in the region; the reserve of Polana the town Banska Stiavnica, registered in the World and Cultural heritage of the unesco; the hunting museum of Antol; the wooden church in Hronsek.
