Region of the defence castles and of the important personalities, it is situated in the north-west part of Slovakia and confines with Czech republic. The Roman inscription on the castle rock is the document that testifies the farthest northern memory of Roman stay in central Europe. In this region are born very important Slovak personalities, like for example Ludovit Stur – the linguist and codificator of Slovak language, Alexander Dubcek - Statesman and politician, M. R. Stefanik - one of two founders of the first Czechoslovakian republic. The metropoli of the region is Trencin with 58.000 inhabitants. The Trencin region has 9 provinces: Trencin, Banovce nad Bebravou, Ilava, Myjava, Nove Mesto nad Vahom, Partizanske, Povazska Bystrica, Prievidza a Puchov.
The tourist attractions of the region:
the historical and cultural monuments of the town and its provinces, the Vazecka cycling route; the Slovak Museum of the glass in Lednicke Rovne; the Shop Museum in Klobusice; the Spa towns - Trencianske Teplice, Nimnica and Bojnice; the Bojnice castle, the ruins of the Beckov and Cachtice castle.
